If an expat family wants to send their children to a local public school, do they need to follow any regulations?
The Ministry of Education issued the Regulations on the Enrollment of International Students by Primary and Middle Schools back in 2007. According to the regulations and Shanghai’s own rules, expat families can send their children to a local public school. Primary school tuition is 3,000 yuan per semester while middle school tuition is 6,000 yuan per semester. There is also a boarding fee of 900 yuan per semester. Public kindergartens charge a monthly fee of 1,300 yuan for day school and 2,300 yuan for boarding school.
Children of overseas Chinese and holders of Shanghai Residence Permit-B enjoy the same treatment as local pupils for nine-year compulsory education. Children of international students with Shanghai Residence Permit-B also enjoy the same treatment as Chinese students for pre-school, elementary and high school education.
Qualified foreign students can enroll in a nearby school according to local conditions. The district/county education departments will recommend a few schools for their choice. Tuitions for primary and middle schools are 34,000 yuan and 38,000 yuan per semester respectively. Boarding fee is 1,300 yuan per semester. The kindergarten charge is 6,500 yuan per month.

What Jinshan specialties would you recommend?
Jinshan boasts many special products, such as Dingyixing pork knuckles stewed in brown source and Shikumen rice wine. As the city’s major farming base, Jinshan produces high-grade rice, famous Huangmu flat peaches and Shiquan grapes. Its peasant paintings are internationally famous, too. Hello! How can I get to Jinshan Beach from Shanghai? Can I get to it by train to Jinshan North Station, or I must use another type of transport?
It’s not easy to get to Jinshan City Beach from Jinshan North Station. You will have to take Jinshan Community Bus No.6 金山社区巴士6路, get off at Jinshan Bus Station 金山汽车站, change for another bus called Zhuwei Gaosu Xian 朱卫高速线, get off at Shihua Bus Station 石化汽车站, which is about 30 minutes’ walk from the beach. You can call a taxi to reach the beach.
You can also directly call a taxi at Jinshan North Station, but due to the distance (about 40km) the journey will cost more than 150 yuan.
Alternatively you can take a bus called Shangshi Xian 上石线 at Shanghai South Railway Station. Take for 36 stops and get off at Xincheng Road 新城路, which is within walking distance from the beach.
You are advised to allow at least 90 minutes for the entire journey, from either Jinshan North Station or Shanghai South Railway Station.
