The 18th Jinshan Flat Peach Festival and the Yangtze River Delta Flat Peach Tasting event opened in Lvxiang Town, inviting the public to taste and purchase the high-quality fruit.

Lvxiang is known as the "Ten Thousand Mu Fruit Park" and is a major agricultural town famous for its agriculture. In recent years, 36 varieties of specialty fruits, represented by the "Huangmu" flat peach, have become popular among the citizens.

The local flat peaches are characterized by their flat and round fruits, small pits, bright appearance, soft flesh, thin skin, juicy texture and strong sweet flavor. They have been recognized as National Geographical Indication Products and National Ecological Origin Protection Products. Last year, the Jinshan flat peach composite cultivation system was selected as China's important agricultural cultural heritage, marking a first in Shanghai.

Currently, nearly 80 varieties of flat peaches are cultivated in the Yangtze River Delta region. On the day of the event, more than ten varieties from cooperatives in Shanghai, Jiangsu and other places were showcased at the tasting event.

"Last year, our cooperative participated in the Yangtze River Delta flat peach competition, and our Yulu flat peach won the gold award," said Wang Ziyu, head of the Shanghai Mengyang Ecological Agriculture Development Cooperative. "This year, we have 50 mu of flat peaches at our base. Due to the impact of temperature, they came to market about a week later than last year, and are expected to be at their best flavor by the end of July."
